One of the Education Department's most important target groups is schoolchildren. Programmes are specially adapted to different age groups, based on materials that make learning about the Museum both easy and fun.

Before visiting the Museum teachers are provided with activities to stimulate interest and prepare students for the visit.

These programmes are meant to encourage observation and discussion and engage students intellectually. The emphasis is on student's perception, tuning in on their own feelings and learning to express them. Participation and developing critical thinking skills  are the cornerstones of the programmes.

Programmes

"Jugando con las esculturas" (Playing with the sculptures) (ages 4-7)

The children's curiosity is sparked before coming to the Museum through a series of games aimed at stimulating the imagination and visual perception skills. At Chillida-Leku children and teachers or chaperones are taken on adventure (approx. 1 hour) in which they have to follow clues to find a series of sculptures. All the while they learn about the language of the different works of art...

"Miro y comprendo" (Looking and Understanding) (ages 8-12)

The concepts of matter and the third dimension are approached by focusing on visual perception and learning to express feelings and sensations.  At school students use a notebook with images and simple text to construct an initial idea of Chillida-Leku and the sculptures. While they are at the Museum they will be taken on a guided tour to discover the real sculptures (approx. 1.5 hours). Our docents will provide the children with clues and ideas to help them better understand what they're looking at.

Programme for primary and secondary students (aged 13-18)

Eduardo Chillida is presented to students based on feelings and direct contact, analysing the sculptor's artwork from different perspectives - from the actual materials he used to his Eduardo Chillida's relationship with Human Rights - depending on the interests of the specific group. During the pre- and post-visit activities and the visit itself (approx. 1 hour), our staff will encourage participation and a positive attitude towards contemporary art.
