The Chillida-Leku Museum has requested a temporary labor force adjustment plan and has agreed to close the museum starting on January 1, 2011. This decision is attributed to the recurring deficit that, along with practically all art museums, the museum has had to endure due to the general economic crisis which has risen to a level unsustainable for the private institution
The Chillida-Leku Museum, supported by technical assistance from the Eduardo Chillida-Pilar Belzunce Foundation, wants the space created by the artist to serve as a stage for dialogue between the arts. Therefore, ever since the Museum opened, most particularly since 2004, it has made great efforts to provide a wide range of cultural activities. In many cases such events are offered in collaboration with other cultural organizations, and in others they are based on the artwork displayed in the Museum, or connected to the natural world surrounding the Museum. All of the activities point toward the fact that Eduardo Chillida thrived on art, so often taking his inspiration from poetry, music, painting, dance...
All of the spaces in the Museum, on the hillsides and inside the Zabalaga farmhouse are filled with words, music and dance. We hope that all of them will help people understand this dimension of the Eduardo Chillida's sculptures.
