The opening ceremony took place at 12:00 noon at the site of the public sculpture, “The Wind Comb”. The Minister of Culture, Miren Azcarate, the leader of Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, Markel Olano, the president of the Provincial General Assembly, Rafaela Romero, and the mayor of Donostia, Odón Elorza, presided over the opening ceremony in the presence of the Chillida family. The tape was cut by the mayor of San Sebastián and before this the dancer Jon Maia performed an Aurresku of honour.
At the opening ceremony they remembered the people who had made it possible to create and install the “Wind Comb,” including the architect, Luis Peña Ganchegui, and the engineer José María Elosegui.
Some hours later at 21:00 we were able to enjoy a “multidisciplinary” concert based on the sound installation “Haizearen hotsak”, by the composer from San Sebastián, Gorka Alda, who offered a dialogue between the sea, iron and wind. Oreka Tx ,Orfeo Txiki, Kukai Dantza Taldea, and the Alos Quartet also took part. The opening ceremony ended with a fireworks display by Astondoa.
