The mission of the Chillida-Leku Museum library and documentation centre is to collect, preserve, store and document any and all information on the life and work of Eduardo Chillida.

The Chillida-Leku library and documentation Centre is also a place where researchers will find information on the sculptor's work here at the Museum and around the world. The overall purpose is universalize the name and work of Eduardo Chillida.

The library houses an extensive collection of documents related to the artist, including: catalogues of individual and group exhibitions, monographs, theses, journals, press dossiers, etc.   There is also a newspaper archive with articles on the artists and the Museum itself.

 

Collection

The library contains more than 3,000 documents related to the life and work of Eduardo Chillida, 758 documents on group exhibitions (catalogues, brochures, opening announcements, etc.), 292 catalogues on individual exhibitions and 50 monographs the sculptor's life and work.

 

Archives

A computer at the library allows users to access the digital archive and view the works of Eduardo Chillida. Taking into account the sculptor's extensive artistic activity, so far only part of his work has been digitized, although plans are in place to complete the digital collection.

The creation of an audio-visual archive is one of the next goals of the Chillida-Leku library. This archive will include all of the documentation in audio-visual format on the life and work of the artist.

The library collection includes such films as "El Arte y los Sueños" by Susana Chillida, "Tindaya Chillida" by Gonzalo Suárez and "Chillida 5 fragmentos" by Larry Boulting.

 

Services

The Chillida-Leku Museum library and documentation centre is primarily designed for researchers and scholars of Contemporary Art and other disciplines, including architecture, engineering  and philosophy, interested in learning more about the artwork of Eduardo Chillida. The education community is also invited to make use of the facility. Thus, teachers, upper secondary students and university students writing papers on the sculptor are welcome. The library also provides other departments of the Museum with pertinent information.

 

Loan service: since the books and documentation making up the library collection are difficult to replace, the material is not available for loan. However, library users may photocopy or scan the information they need.

 

A computer is also available for querying the database on works, exhibitions and publications, and for checking Internet resources. The library is also equipped with laptop ports.

 

Interested parties must make arrangements in advance to use the library during regular library hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

 

(*) The library is closed for repairs till 15th of july.
